What is driving gigs?
In addition to the ring drive in Westkapelle also gigs Driving kept. A gig is a two-wheeled (antique) car, behind a horse tense. In the gig are a husband and wife (and sometimes children) in Zeeland costumes.
The man ment the horse, the woman tries to ring the stabbing with his lance. The man sends the horse trotting on the trail where the road three to four rings above the road in an iron box hanging. It is important to maximize rings stabbing, it's not about how fast that happens, though the horse is trotting under the ring to stabbing.
The chaise and the horse should be decorated. Decoration may only "living" material not with artificial flowers or something The combination of the decorated chaise, a decorated horse and riders in traditional costume is a beautiful sight.
B is used to lance the gigs driving. This lance is shorter and lighter in weight than those in the ring A lance drive is used.
The ring
To stabbing the ring has a diameter of 38 mm. In the face, the cross-section of the ring, however, be reduced to a minimum of 10 mm. If the ring is inserted, it should immediately back of the lance be forsworn. The ring is usually 3 or 4 places on the trail in an iron box on a rope between two poles (at its Zeeland: 'the dough gers'). In some games can move only 2 rings are inserted, for example at the annual demonstration in Burgh. The distance between the bottom of the canister and the road is in the driving gigs 2.10 meters.
Farmer Round
During demonstrations is often a farmer lap. This means that the roles are switched: the woman is driving and the man must try to move the ring to take on the lance. Such peasant round leaves sometimes very surprising results.
Camps
When a number of gigs pairs at the end of the day, the same number of rings, is inserted there is striven who the ultimate winner of the day. The gigs pairs camps like the ring riding a shrinking ring. The normal competition ring is 38 mm diameter. In the camps begin with a ring of 32 mm diameter. If this ring is not (more) cross fades, who is allowed to insert further into camps, the ring becomes smaller. 32 goes to 26 mm, then 20 mm, then 14 mm, ending with the smallest ring of 10 mm.
Costume
Most participants in ring and gigs drive come from the former island of Walcheren, making the Walcheren dress the most worn clothing during demonstrations and competitions. But obviously contributing members from South Beveland Arnemuiden or Nieuwland gestation in their region or village common.
The staff
For each game there are gigs (voluntary) staff. First there is a job Commissioner responsible for the proper procedure during the gigs contest. Furthermore, there is on each ring, a ring hanger, the ring in which the bus. Each ring there are usually two writers: one for tracking the state on a large blackboard and a position paper. A crossed ring means a vertical line, a missed ring a horizontal dash. The double letter also avoids errors in counting the rings inserted per participant.
Then at the end of the trail a collective board where one or two writers state the total per participant of each round down. The participants themselves at the end of the round by how many rings they have crossed the road. By the way, this number is at the end of the day, also controlled with the position in each ring, which the authors have written. Tampering, by participating pairs is not possible.
Often there is also a speaker at a match there, the audience and the participants
constantly informed of what is happening.
